IN-DECISION

"What should we have for dinner?" A question that can throw even the most   decisive person into indecision.

Most of us will find ourselves waffling over which choice to make at one point or another. Failing to make a decision, even a small one, can wear you out physically and emotionally; it looms over you and follows you wherever you go.

Here are some things you can do next time you find yourself "unable" to make a decision:

1.  Consider what's keeping you stuck.

If fear is holding you back, identify what you're afraid of and write it down.  Then brain-storm ideas of what you can do if that fear comes to pass.

Maybe you think there is a right or wrong choice. In most cases, there are only advantages and disadvantages to each decision.  Write down a "pro/con" list for each option, then decide which "con" list you can live with.

2. Consider the magnitude of the decision.  Will this matter ten years from now?  The answer is likely no.  But even if it's yes, remember that most decisions are reversible.

 3. One of my favorite techniques for helping with a big decision is to "try it on."  Write down your options (A or B). Commit to one and write out your reason for making that decision, then, live with it for a day. At the end of the day, pay attention to how you are feeling about your choice.  If you chose option "A" and it still seems good then that's your choice. If it feels "bad" then option B is the way to go. Either way, your decision has been made.
